How to start testing
- 01 · Connect the controller
Plug it in via USB, or pair it over Bluetooth, and confirm the system recognizes it.
- 02 · Press a button (required)
Browsers only expose gamepad data after you physically press any button on the pad.
- 03 · Test against the screen
Press every button, circle both sticks, pull both triggers and tap the D-pad, checking the animation mirrors your input.
- 04 · Prefer wired
Bluetooth may drop into a power-saving mode that jitters samples — use a cable for precise checks.
Xbox controller terms explained
- Linear (analog) trigger
- LT/RT read how far you pull (0.0–1.0), shown as bars here — key for racing throttle and aiming-down-sights.
- Stick drift
- Worn or dusty potentiometers keep sending movement even when you are not touching the stick — a cursor that moves by itself.
- Deadzone
- The ignored region around the stick center; tiny offsets inside it are normal, not a fault.
- Hall effect sticks
- Sticks that sense position with magnetic fields instead of resistive film — no physical wear, so they effectively never drift. Newer Xbox pads adopt them.
- Back paddles
- Programmable levers on the back of the Elite. They must be remapped to a standard button in the Xbox Accessories app before this page can detect them.

Troubleshooting guide
Charges but never connects
Most likely a charge-only cable with no data lines. Swap in a known data USB-C / Micro-USB cable.
Rumble lost / flaky over Bluetooth
Xbox Bluetooth is a low-power channel with limited features — a platform limit, not a fault. The official 2.4 GHz dongle or a wired connection restores full function.
Stick drift
Spray WD-40 precision electronics cleaner (not the rust version) into the stick base, work it around, then let it dry.
Buttons scrambled in Steam
Fine here but wrong in game? Steam → Settings → Controller, and enable configuration support for your pad type.
Frequently asked questions
Plugged in but nothing happens?
First, press any button on the pad while the page is open to wake the Gamepad API. Second, use an up-to-date Chromium browser (Chrome / Edge). Third, confirm your pad is XInput-based — they are plug-and-play.
Why is there no vibration over Bluetooth?
Xbox Bluetooth deliberately carries only basic features, so rumble is dropped over that channel — a platform limit, not a fault. Wired or the 2.4 GHz dongle restores it.
Elite back paddles do not register?
Paddles are not standard buttons. Remap each one in the Xbox Accessories app first; after remapping, this page detects the assigned button.
The stick dot will not re-center?
A tiny offset is normal deadzone tolerance. A large offset that never re-centers is classic stick drift — the stick is worn out.
Buttons jump or double-fire?
Usually worn conductive rubber or sugary drink residue. Clean with high-purity alcohol or replace the rubber pad.
